Early in the morning, at 7 o'clock, the first swimmers meet at the See-Bad of our Carinthian lakeside hotel. In the 25-meter-long pool, there is plenty of space to do your laps. In the fresh air and in pure lake water. Depending on the season, the sun is just rising or illuminating the mountains. In winter, steam floats over the water, the view extends to the frozen Lake Turrach and the snow-covered mountains.
Everything is thought of at the wellness hotel right by the lake in Carinthia. To keep your towel and bathrobe warm, there is a warming cabinet in front of the lake bath. In summer, the wooden platform at Lake Turrach is perfect for sunbathing and relaxing. A short distance away, in the "Marina," pedal boats, water bicycles, and steppers as well as SUP boards are kept at your disposal.
When the See-Bad opened, it was the first of its kind worldwide. So, it's the original and still the highest-altitude, year-round heated pool in a lake. The idea came from Peter Leeb, the father of Karin Leeb, an avid swimmer. But the water in Lake Turrach is usually too cold for pleasant swimming. So, Peter Leeb spent ten years looking for ways to install a heated pool. With the help of imaginative technicians, this was eventually successful. In 1995, the lakeside Hotel Hochschober in Carinthia opened the world's first heated See-Bad.
How does the See-Bad work - by the way, it is not a real pool but open downwards? Here's a little physics: Warm water floats on cold water. The heating is hidden in floating stainless steel pontoons, which limit the bath to a depth of three meters. This way, the warm lake water remains on top, and the cold forms a natural boundary below. This also allows the warmed water volume to exchange every 10 hours.

A landscape that delights the heart. Perfectly suitable for leisurely walks, hikes, and leisure hours. Three picturesque mountain lakes are nestled amidst larch and Swiss stone pine forests. Lake Turrach, Schwarzsee, and Grünsee. From Hotel Hochschober, you can hike to all three lakes in about 2 hours.
Hotel Hochschober is located on the southern shore of the lake. It is the largest of the three lakes, up to 33 meters deep, and frozen for almost six months of the year. The ice is so solid that you can ski or walk on the lake in winter. A nearly level hiking trail takes you around the lake. At a comfortable pace, it takes about 30 minutes to walk around.
